Okay really, how can I be just so happy and sad with life at the same time… not gonna lie, prom the past two weeks have been fun and yesss I was pretty happy, but now there’s this.
Even with all the schoolwork and activities that have been going on, which has been uber stressful and time consuming, I handled that. Yeah okay, papers to write and AP exams to take… I could give up sleep and my health…but something that is so out of my control, what am I supposed to do?
My grandpa has been in the hospital for like 10 days and I’ve only seen him twice. Once last week, and he was doing okay, so ya know, I focused on school and whatnot… didn’t even think about him really. But today, we visited him and gawd, it just finally hit me…
It was just me and him and right when he saw me he started crying. I couldn’t even say anything… I’ve never seen my grandpa this weak. He’s always been the strong one in the family, and always the one who supported me no matter what. Never has he ever nagged me out (or if so I don’t remember)… he’s like the only one in the household that says he’s proud of me and so glad I focus in school. He is the one with the greatest hope for me cause he knew I do so well in school and am capable of doing so many things…
But there he was on the bed with like a thousand needles in his hand and his skin was all yellow, I don’t know. He looked at me and he was just crying, but no tears were coming out because he was that weak. And all I could do was let my tears fall…. I sat there with his hand in my hand and we both just cried. I don’t even know if he said anything but all I can remember that he did say was that I had to keep doing well in school, like he always has been saying.
What else could I do but to think of the past 18 years he’s been in my life…. he basically raised me. I’ll always have this image of him watching me go down the slide in our front yard when I was like 5, ready to catch me, and this other one of him holding me under an umbrella at the beach when I was like 2. We definitely stopped talking and showing affection starting since like what, 1st grade… but he’s been the one to drive me to school and pretty much everywhere since then. I remember he gave me a hug for my last (18th) birthday though, and that was chill.
Yeah, honestly I don’t know how I’m going to deal with losing someone so close (literally) to me. Dear God please let the medicine work, because I do not want to start counting the days before he goes… which would be right before I graduate high school too, so pls just no. I honestly can’t imagine life without him. How am I going to be strong when the strongest person I know is gone?

I guess this is a friendly reminder to be grateful and not take your loved ones for granted.
